North Carolina first state to succeed suing ecigarette maker Juul
North Carolina negotiated a $ 40 million settlement with e-cigarette maker Juul to be paid over six years.
“For years, JUUL targeted young people, including teens, with its highly addictive e-cigarette,” N.C Attorney General Josh Stein said in a statement. “It lit the spark and fanned the flames of a vaping epidemic among our children — one that you can see in any high school in North Carolina.”
Money will go towards helping youth quit “vaping” and preventing addiction to nicotine. 11 other states and D.C. have also sued the company.
Juul denied wrongdoing and liability in a statement affirming it’s desire “to combat underage usage’” of it’s products.
