Prescription medication take back day

Twice a year the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and local law enforcement offices sponsor DEA Prescription Take Back Day.

Unused or expired medications in the home are often a source of misuse and possible poisoning. Many people do not know how to safely dispose of medications they no longer need. Often they are simply forgotten, or if discarded, in a way that is unsafe for the environment (flushing).

In Hamilton County the Lake Pleasant Sheriff Office maintains a 24/7 drop box. In addition the Four Rivers Alliance provides free-of-charge the Deterra System safe disposal envelop, an easy-to-use method that neutralizes pills and patches so they can be safely disposed of in the trash.

Contact the Alliance to have a supply of Deterra mailed to you.
